This document contains important specific and background information which will tremendously enhance your experience while participating in this group. I, therefore, strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with this material before proceeding to post into our group.

How to compose your post

1. Create a new message. Don't post a question of your own in response to another question.
2. If your new post is not on-topic for this group, you must precede the subject line with 'OT:' (Off-Topic) so subscribers may ignore your post knowing it has nothing to do with the purpose of this group. Also see [Frequently asked questions] for more information on 'OT:' postings.
3. Make the Subject line a short, relevant synopsis of the issue. Avoid poor subject lines like these:
   • Digest Number (number)
   • Any experts around here?
   • Good article
   • Need help please
   • Is this true?
4. Before going into detail, clearly summarize the issue.
5. Make a concise, clear description of the issue.
6. Unless multiple issues seem related, do not mix them together, instead make a separate post.
7. Include your FULL NAME (first and last) in post.
8. Proof-read and spell-check the post before sending.

After you post...

1. Be patient waiting for a response, it may take a couple of days or more before the right person sees the question.
2. You should carefully assess any advice you get. If there is misinformation in a posted response, someone will almost always correct it. Ask for clarification if you aren't certain.
3. If you don't get a response for a few days, it is probably because nobody knows the answer and you need to pursue other options.

How to Reply to a post

• Place your reply text at the top of the page, and leave enough of the original text you are replying to for context.
• Please delete ALL footer content before sending reply.
• Please Do-not-alter-the-subject-line when replying.
• 'Personal' replies should be sent 'only to the person' you are responding to, and not the group, unless you know the group would benefit.
• Include your FULL NAME (first and last) in post.
• Proof-read and spell-check the post before sending.

Cross posting

Cross-posted messages are e-mail messages that are sent to more than one address.

If you cross post a message, all the addressee's must be bcc'd, and if you reply to a message from 'any' group, you may NEVER 'add' MCGO to the distribution of that reply.

Daily digest recipients

As a daily digest recipient, you may not reply to your digest e-mail, as this does not include the proper subject line of the thread in which you are replying. Instead you need to locate the original message in the [archives on MCGO] and reply to that message. This action step requires that you have a [Yahoo ID] associated with MCGO. Do not reply to any post, and change the subject line; there is code included in the header of every message that is used to group messages into their proper thread. Again, you need to locate the original message in the [archives on MCGO] and reply to that message.

1. Q: How do I postpone or change message delivery?

   A: Go to [Edit My Membership] or see [E-mail Commands].

2. Q: How do I add/remove an e-mail address?

   A: Go to [My E-mail Preferences].

3. Q: How do I post my messages from an alternate e-mail address, and still receive replies only to my primary e-mail address?

   A: Go to [My E-mail Preferences].

   Under "Options" select 'Edit' on the same line as your group e-mail address.

   Find: "Alternate Posting Addresses", and insert up to five additional e-mail addresses where you would like to post messages from.

4. Q: How do I eliminate picture ADVERTISEMENTS from my e-mails?

   2. Scroll down to Message Format
   3. Select Do not convert to HTML
   4. Then go to the bottom of the page and select Save Changes.

   
   
5. Q: How can I share files or photos with this group?

   A: Both files and photos may be uploaded from the [main page].

6. Q: How do I access the files, polls, or anything else on MCGO?
   A: If you do not have a Yahoo! account, you will not be able to access the [links on MCGO]. Send e-mail to []
7. Q: Once in awhile, I see OT: preceding the message subject. What does that mean?

   A: Occasionally a list member will post a topic that is important to them and wish to share it with the group. This is an accepted method of announcing to the group that the post is not about the general topic for this group. Gross abuses of 'OT:' (Off-Topic) posts will be handled, by an off-list request to suspend the 'OT:' posts. Contact the original poster off-list if you wish to reply to their post.

8. Q: How do I quote another person?

   A: Edit out whatever is not directly applicable to your reply, including the content at the end of the message inserted by Yahoo! Do not let your mailing software automatically quote the entire body of messages you are replying to when it is not necessary. Take the time to edit any quotations down to the minimum necessary to provide context for your reply. Nobody enjoys reading a long message in quotes for the third or subsequent time, only to be followed by a one-line response: "Yeah, me too," or similar response. Please Do-not-alter-the-subject-line when replying.

9. Q: I have 'gun' related items for sale; is it permissible to post these to the group?

   A: Yes it is encouraged, only ask to be contacted privately and provide a means of contact (e.g., e-mail address, phone number). Once the item has been sold, reply to your original message to let the group know the item is no longer available.

10. Q: May I have more than one account on MCGO?

    A: No. Only one account per subscriber is permitted as this could impact poll questions and further does not accurately reflect the true number of members in this group.

11. Q: Whom do I complain to about list abuses?

    A: [Contact me]; attach the post in dispute to the end of your e-mail. All correspondence of this nature shall be kept off-list.

I urge you to actively participate in our government and the MCGO list. Please do not use MCGO as an advertising medium. Post breaking news of interest to this group, whether it is private, local, state, or federal. Ask questions; respond to queries if you know the answer.
